Jeremy Lin approached his recently traded teammate, Jeremy Lamb, in the correct fashion after a trade for James Harden sent the rookie to Oklahoma City before he could even suit up for a regular season game in a Rockets’ uniform. Only problem was, Lin called the wrong rookie, via BlackSportsOnline.
Lin apparently dialed undrafted rookie point guard, Scott Machado, instead of Lamb and gave the youngster quite the scare.
“I was like, ‘Hey, it’s Scott, it’s not Jeremy,’ ” Machado told Ultimate Rockets of his conversation with Lin. “Did you hear something about me?’ I was all nervous. He was like, “Oh, I apologize, I apologize.’ It all worked out.”
Seems like Lin may have had some confusion with his cell phone, or perhaps the Rockets’ new franchise point guard just wasn’t very aware of what was taking place.
I was wondering what it would be like for announcers and fans alike at games, having to differentiate between “Jeremy Lin” and “Jeremy Lamb” being announced over arena PA systems during games. Infact, I was talking with a friend on the phone about the Houston/OKC trade and when I said Jeremy Lamb, he responded with “Oh, Jeremy Lin got traded to OKC with Kevin Martin“. Lamb and Lin just sound too much alike, I guess. So, maybe this trade clears up some confusion within the Rockets’ ranks if nothing else.
The funniest part of this story has to be the fact that Jeremy Lin freaked out his teammate so much. I’m sure the fact that Machado’s contract is not guaranteed really had the rookie guard spooked. But it seems that all is well for Machado at the moment.
