Johnny Manziel off to perfect start according to Nate Burleson
NFL Media’s Aditi Kinkhabwala has reported that he ran into Cleveland Browns wide receiver Nate Burleson after practice, and Burleson had high praise for Johnny Manziel.
Nate Burleson, who Kinkhabwala ran into after the wideout practiced with the rookies, said Manziel “didn’t make any mistakes today.” Following head coach Mike Pettine’s announcement that the team’s starting QB won’t be named until Aug. 23, it appears that a legitimate QB battle could be nigh.
Although Brian Hoyer is expected to get the majority of work with the first team, there is no reason that a battle for the starting job shouldn’t take place. Hoyer is the incumbent based off a couple good games last season, and was never a starter before that.
Manziel, meanwhile, was drafted in the first-round and is seen as a possible answer to the Browns’ QB woes that have spanned more than a decade. Whichever QB wins the job will have high expectations, as Cleveland looks primed to finally get out of the cellar in the AFC North.
