Jordy Nelson hopes to have new deal with Packers soon
Green Bay Packers receiver Jordy Nelson is entering the final year of the three-year deal he signed in 2011. But Nelson isn’t looking past this season to the 2015 free agency period, as he hopes to have a contract extension done with the Packers long before that.
Nelson believes that his level of production and desire to remain in Green Bay are more than enough for both sides to come to terms.
“I haven’t thought that far. I guess I’m more focused on hoping it gets done before that,” Nelson told the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “Obviously you want to get it done as soon as possible, but there are a lot of other people involved in that. It’s a process, we’ll just have to wait and see how it goes.”
Nelson is coming off a 2013 campaign in which he set career highs for catches and yards. If he were to have a repeat performance this year, he would have plenty of suitors in free agency. But his hope and belief is that he and the Packers can come to an agreement before he has to think about any of that.
Nelson loves it in Green Bay, and he has performed very well during his tenure. Barring an unforeseen setback, expect the two sides to begin negotiations sometime soon.
