Jozy Altidore not cleared to play vs. Germany
Amid hope that the United States Men’s National Team would get Jozy Altidore back for their World Cup showdown vs. Germany on Thursday, head coach Jurgen Klinsmann confirmed Altidore is still not ready, although he is recovering well from a hamstring injury.
Altidore injured his left hamstring in the USA’s win over Ghana, then missed Sunday’s heartbreaking draw vs. Portugal. Portugal tied the game with less than a minute of stoppage time remaining. Had the US pulled that win out, they would already have advanced to the round of 16.
Per USA Today:
“This game still comes too early for him.” Klinsmann said Tuesday. “Jozy is recovering really well,” Klinsmann said, adding that the U.S. will have a “good chance to have him back” if the Americans advance to the Round of 16.
The USA needs a win or draw against Germany to advance to the knockout round.
