According to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News, the Knicks are closing in on a deal with the former Denver Nugget J.R. Smith.
The Knicks can currently offer more money than both the Lakers and Clippers. The Knicks have their mini mid-level exception, which is worth $2.5 million. The Lakers and Clippers could only offer Smith the veterans minimum.
What’s ironic, is if this would have taken place two weeks ago, Jeremy Lin likely would have been the odd man out. However, Lin has not only entered the rotation, but he’s also a main component in the Knicks future success.
