Lil Wayne set to open new Sports Management agency
Sports and music have been pretty well connected over the years, especially in the digital age.
Rappers becoming agents is a fairly new trend however, and one that seems to be occurring more and more.
Jay Z was the first one to open a sports management agency and Lil Wayne will be the latest, according to TMZ, and he’ll be teaming up with Real Madrid forward Christiano Ronaldo in his venture.
Our sources tell us … Weezy has been wanting to get into the sports management game for a while and has had his sights set on the Team Portugal stud … not just because he’s a huge sports star, but because they’re friends.
We’re told Weezy’s company will be working with PolarisSports — which is affiliated with the CAA agency and GestiFute — through which Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes operates.
Our sources tell us Wayne’s company will handle Ronaldo’s sports management affairs in the United States — everything from branding to marketing and endorsement deals. Even modeling.
Hopefully Wayne’s management skills are better than his rapping skills, as he’s fallen off the map lately.
Speaking of rapping, all I can think of with rappers wanting to open agencies is a Jay Z lyric, and it is pretty true.
“Hov’s a living legend and I’ll tell you why//Everybody wanna be Hov…and Hov’s still alive.”
Jay Z was first, Birdman and Slim came next, Drake is in the midst of starting one and now Wayne is hopping on board – Hov’s right.
