Mark Ingram makes bold statement concerning his future
New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram hasn’t exactly been a household name when talking about the NFL’s best at the position. However, that hasn’t stopped him from wanting to be good – very good.
He wants to be greater than any running back who has ever played the game of football.
“The sky’s the limit, man. I want to be the best back to ever play the freakin’ game of football,” Ingram said, via ESPN.
Thus far in his career since he was drafted in 2011, Ingram has a fallen a bit short of being the best ever. He has rushed for 1,462 yards and 11 touchdowns.
The Saints declined to pick up the fifth-year option on Ingram’s rookie deal, which means he is heading to a contract year in 2014. Most likely, New Orleans will not re-sign him, as they have Pierre Thomas and promising second-year back Khiry Robinson on the roster.
You can’t fault a guy for setting high goals, but Ingram will need to get on a team that lets him handle the full workload before he can even throw his name into the conversation about the league’s best running backs.
