Matthew Stafford has to have a big game against the Vikings

Quarterback Matthew Stafford is on his way to a Hall of Fame career if he keeps up his form with the Detroit Lions that he has had for the last year and a half. However, the one team that he will have to figure out at some point is the Minnesota Vikings, the team that is on the docket this week.

Stafford has played in four career games versus Minnesota, and the end results haven’t been all that pretty. The team is just 2-2 SU and 0-2-2 ATS in those outings, and Detroit has averaged just 20.8 points per game in the four clashes.

The former Georgia Bulldog has averaged 1.84 touchdowns per game over the course of his career, and that number is 1.91 TDs per game if you take out the games against the Vikings. Against Minnesota, he has just five touchdowns in four outings.

The good news for Stafford is that he is throwing for a heck of a lot of yards against his NFC North rival. He has averaged 302.8 yards per game in his career against Minnesota, but games like the one that was played in Week 4 are the truly mind-boggling ones. Stafford threw for 319 yards, but it took putting the ball in the air 51 times for that to happen. He did have a rushing touchdown, but he wasn’t able to put the ball in the end zone through the air.

The Lions are now headed on the road to the HHH Metrodome on Sunday, but they are slender 1 ½-point favorites. If they are going to make for successful NFL picks on the day, Stafford is going to need to come up with a heck of an effort against a Minnesota secondary
