The Top 10 Messiest Sports Divorces Ever:
10.) Frank and Jamie McCourt
One of the messiest sports divorces that didn’t include any athletes. Frank’s ex-wife Jamie, received $131 million for giving up here half of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Although it took a while for Jamie to agree to give up here stake, she did receive the received $131 million tax-free and several luxurious homes with the agreement.
Frank may have got the last laugh though. The Dodgers were later sold for $2 billion to a group led by Magic Johnson. Jamie and her lawyers are saying she was misled by the value of the Los Angeles Dodgers organization and is claiming she has been short-changed roughly $770 million. Stay tune…
9.) Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian
I think at first we all thought poor Kris, Kim did this as a media stunt. Then we saw the ill-fated attempt as he tried to do the whole T.V. gig with the Kardashians. Kris probably thought walking around with his pecs would be good enough to win over America.
Well Kris said screw that, and stood up to the Kardashians, and we saw how that went. He was voted the most hated player in the NBA, and booed all game in a recent exhibition game again the Knicks.
It probably didn’t help either that Kris called Kim “fat.” Also saying you’re planning to sue her for $10 million won’t help you gain any votes. He even called her stupid! That’s not the Kardashians I know!
He even refused to sign the divorce papers claiming he wanted more time to think about it.
I have a feeling this isn’t going away anytime soon.
8.) Michael Jordan and Juanita Vanoy
Jordan is a notorious scorer on the court as well as off the court. Infidelity would be an understatement. Jordan was huge cheater and a paternity test to another child NOT from Juanita pretty much summed up his commitment to his wife.
Juanita still ended up with $168 million in the divorce settlement, not a bad payday right? That is probably chump change for Jordan and his millions.
7.) Alex Rodriguez and Cynthia Scurtis
My favorite tabloid headline from A-Rod’s marriage may have been Stray-Rod, as photos were taken of him being with a “mystery blonde” who was found out to be a stripper.
Cynthia was married to Rodriguez for six years, and with the money he’s earned throughout that tenure, it’s a fair assumption to say Cythnia won’t be applying at any level entry positions to support the kids in the next few years.
Cynthia’s asked for custody of their two daughters, private school tuition, child support, and a standard of living compatible with the “lavish lifestyle” to which the family is accustomed.
Nothing like getting the minimum right?
6.) Mike Tyson and Robin Givens
Oh boy, Tyson probably wasn’t marriage material from the start. Robin Givens stated that she was physically abused before they were married, and it only got worse after they married.
Givens claimed she was sexually abused by Tyson and that her marriage was a living hell. Um, you married Mike Tyson, what did you expect?
She bagged over $10 million in the settlement but claims she didn’t receive a dime. I find this hard to believe and many thought she was out for Tyson’s money. She recently is being sued by the U.S. government over $292,000 in unpaid taxes.
Another bad decision from “Iron Mike.”
5.) Tiki Barber and Ginny Cha
Tiki Barber is a hard person to feel sorry for. Barber claims that his dad was a philanderer and he despised him for it. Well, later in life good ol’ Tiki left his pregnant wife for a 23-year old intern. I guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
Anther unlikable thing Tiki did was criticize his former team as soon as he hit the broadcast booth. Barber had a propensity for speaking his mind which usually didn’t turn out good. These proclivities would also hinder him from ever being liked after football. Tiki just go away now please.
4.) Jason Kidd and Joumana Kidd
So happy here right? Well this got ugly real quick. Kidd actually filed for divorce claiming “extreme cruelty.” Also physically and mentally abusing him. I’m deeply worried the 6’4, 210 pound Jason Kidd could not protect himself against the hostile, slim, model-esque chick in Joumana. The mental abuse is also laughable considering he’s on the road the majority of the time.
Joumana on the other hand claimed abuse as well, citing that Jason broke her rib and damaged her hearing by smashing her head into the console of their car.
Trouble in paradise?
3.) Michael Strahan and Jean Muggli
Where to start with this one…Strahan was not only accused of beating and cheating on his wife, she also claimed that he was secretly gay. Strahan did film a commerical advocating same-sex marriage in New York, so who knows right?
Then it gets even weirder Jean Muggli made an accusation of Strahan videotaping her sister beating Jean, and repeatedly cheating. Huh.
Well, the judge ordered Strahan to pay Jean $15 million in the divorce settlement and also $18,000 in monthly child support, she made out well.
2.) Dwyane Wade and Siohvaughn Funches
It appears Wade came out on top with this one; rewarded custody of both his sons. To top that off his estranged wife at the time had been taken into custody for failing to show up to the divorce hearing.
Funches was Dwyane Wade’s main squeeze since high school. Then Wade met Gabrielle Union who promptly pried him away from his old high school love.
Good thing for Funches is they never signed a prenuptial agreement, so she made out pretty well. Not a bad consolation.
1.) Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren
Never have we seen an athlete become so afflicted from a divorce. Woods’ career has spiraled down hill ever since that Thanksgiving day, early morning, crash that took place a few years ago.
Then there was the plethora of women who came out claiming to have “been with” Tiger. Phone messages, strippers, vegas tales, pancake house waitresses, when does it end Tiger?
Elin will be just fine with a cool $750 million divorce settlement. I have a feeling the former nanny never would have hit the $750 million number doing that profession. I could be wrong though. Anyways, I think she’ll hit the ground running from this divorce.
