Mike Tomlin sounds off on HBO show, calls it a “joke.”
HBO has a long running show called “Hard Knocks”, which takes viewers inside the workings of an NFL training camp. Literally nothing is off limits to the cameras. However, this season no team volunteered to be on the show – so the NFL will appoint a team in the coming months to be on “Hard Knocks” even if it’s against their will.
A team that looks to be a favorite to be chosen is the Pittsburgh Steelers. Two rules apply to candidates for the show: They had to have missed the playoffs two years in a row, and have the same head coach in place that was there during those two years. The Steelers meet both criteria and are one of the most popular NFL teams nationwide.
However, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is firmly against the idea, even calling the show a “joke” during a recent interview with CBS Pittsburgh. Tomlin is a no-nonsense type coach that is trying to get his team back to the playoffs. I don’t blame him, considering his job could be potentially on the line in 2014.
“It is a joke, and just because it’s popular doesn’t mean I have to participate”, said Tomlin.
