NBA executive calls out Rockets GM for arrogance
The Houston Rockets missed out on basically everyone in free agency, and the blame seems to be coming from all directions. One anonymous front-office executive said in more or less words that Rockets general manager Daryl Morey’s arrogance is the reason Houston failed miserably trying to sign players.
Daryl wants everyone to think he’s the smartest person in the room — and he is smart, no doubt,” says one front-office executive.
“But let your influence speak for itself. Stop taking victory laps.”
In the eyes of his critics, Houston’s offseason amounts to dealing Chandler Parsons, Omer Asik,Jeremy Lin, a first-round draft pick and a second-round draft pick for Trevor Ariza, a first-round pick and a trade exception.
Morey also has admirers around the league, and he took calculated risks hoping he could land his target players. Unfortunately, things didn’t unfold that way for the Rockets.
Another anonymous GM added that Morey treats players as assets in a game of chess, which has alienated players and their agents. Either way, Houston has some work to do after a horrible free agency period.
