The Brooklyn Nets are currently battling the Chicago Bulls in the first round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs. While they trail Chicago, it’s clear the Nets fans have to be impressed from what they have seen lately from center Brook Lopez.
Lopez has had a year which has convinced many that he is one of the top big men in the league, particularly on the offensive end. He’s a major part of the team, and has been backing up the big-time contract that the franchise gave him this summer.
All this being said, Brook Lopez surely doesn’t want the playoffs to end. His reasoning is just a little bit different from that of most other NBA players. Via The Brooklyn Game:
So what motivates him? Is it the desire to be the best basketball player to ever live? The competitive drive to rip his opponent’s throat out? The inner fire he channels to pour on the points and lead his team to victory?
According to Lopez:
“I don’t really have a social life. I like hanging out with my guys here. So I really didn’t want the season to end.”
I have to say, this is probably one of the funnier things I’ve heard out of an NBA player in a little while. Most of these guys seem to care about everything going on off the court so much; partying, doing commercials, hanging with their friends, etc. And now I’m just picturing Brook Lopez sitting on his couch twiddling his thumbs during the offseason.
So, thanks for that Brook. And we hope your Nets can hang in the playoffs a little longer so you don’t get too bored.
