According to reports, namely a report on ESPN, Clippers shooting guard J.J. Redick is expected to make his return from injury on Friday. He has been out since the end of November with a broken bone in his hand and a torn ligament in his elbow. With Chris Paul being out, the Clippers couldn’t be happier with the return of J.J. Redick to help bolster their back court. The Clippers have signed Maalik Wayns and Darius Morris to help out their back court, but neither of those guys are nearly as effective or as good as J.J. Redick.
Since Jamal Crawford can play either the shooting guard position or point guard position and Darren Collison is exclusively a point guard and J.J. Redick is exclusively a shooting guard, expect Doc Rivers to use all three guys in a rotation such that one of them is always getting rested. E.g. Crawford at the point guard spot, Redick at the shooting guard spot, and Collison is resting on the bench. Having that kind of flexibility to work with will help Doc Rivers out tremendously and could make enough of a difference that they gain 3 or 4 extra wins in Paul’s absence. That’s enough to jump 2 spots in the tight Western Conference standings.
