The Los Angeles Lakers want to trade for Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins and George Karl, the head coach of the Kings, is reportedly pushing for the team to trade him. Fortunately for Kings fans, ownership is putting their foot down and not allowing George Karl to have his way on this matter.
The Los Angeles Lakers are interested in trading for Sacramento Kings forward DeMarcus Cousins, as ESPN’s Marc Stein has reported, but a source close to the Kings tells ESPN’s Chris Broussard that owner Vivek Ranadive will not allow coach George Karl to trade Cousins…Ranadive told USA Today Sports on Monday that the team has “zero interest” in trading Cousins. “I have no idea where that’s coming from,” Ranadive said of the reports. “But if you like, you should talk to [Kings vice president of basketball and franchise operations] Vlade [Divac], because I know Vlade feels exactly the same way. And I’m deferring to Vlade on everything. We have no interest in moving him. From my perspective, it’s really simple: We feel that he’s a one-of-a-kind player, and we have a group of players right now and we’re going to build on it.”
Vivek Ranadive has had some crazy ideas in the past like using cherry pickers on defense, but on this issue he is absolutely right. DeMarcus Cousins has proven to be an elite big man in the NBA, averaging 24.1 points and 12.7 rebounds per game last season. There is no deal that the Kings could make that would make up for his absence and the Lakers certainly can’t even come close to giving them a fair deal even if they offer the #2 pick in Thursday’s draft.
Now, it should be noted in all of this that these reports of George Karl wanting to get rid of Cousins could be wrong. Ailene Voisin of the Sacramento Bee just spoke with Vlade Divac and wanted to clear some things up.
Just spoke with a very irritated Vlade Divac. Said he is not trading Cousins, and denies Karl pushing for any deal involving All-Star center

Whether or not Vlade Divac is being truthful about Karl is hard to figure since reports of George Karl wanting to get rid of DeMarcus Cousins have been floating around for several months. But what Voisin does echo is the fact that Vlade Divac is not looking to trade DeMarcus Cousins. While there seems to be a lot of turmoil in the Sacramento organization what we can say for certain is that it appears as though DeMarcus Cousins is going nowhere and that the Lakers are not going to get their wish.
