Ever since David Stern vetoed the CP3 trade to the Lakers, Los Angeles Laker power forward Pau Gasol has been the talk of many trade rumors. It has been widely speculated that all of the trade chatter has affected Gasol’s game, and it hasn’t gone unnoticed, especially by teammate and leader Kobe Bryant.
After a disappointing blowout loss to the Phoenix Suns, Kobe sounded off about the Gasol situation. Here’s the quote per LA Times Laker Beat Writer Mike Bresnahan’s twitter account.
“I wish management would come out and either trade him or not trade him.”
Strong statement, which was followed by another:
“It’s just tough for a player to give his all when you don’t know if you’re going to be here tomorrow.”
Let’s be honest, Kobe is right. What we often forget about sports is that these guys are human beings, with emotions and insecurities. This has never been more evident than when the Lakers were forced to trade away Lamar Odom. It has to be incredibly tough to play in a place that you feel unwanted, and unappreciated. The same theory applies for the Magic with the Dwight Howard fiasco. Either trade him, or hang up the phone for good. Teams cannot survive when submerged in controversy and drama; it is a recipe for disaster.
