Rajon Rondo did his best impression of Derrick Rose during media day when asked when he’ll be back. Rondo, who tore his ACL last January against the Atlanta Hawks, told reporters that he’ll return to the court when he’s mentally ready. The good news for the Boston Celtics is that Rondo expects to be back sometime during the winter. With the first day of winter not until December 21st, the best case scenario for Rondo to return to the court would be sometime in January.
“When I’m mentally ready, I’ll play,” Rondo told reporters at the Boston Celtics’ Media Day on Monday.
When asked about his return, Rondo initially said it would be in “the 2013-2014 season,” then later added, “sometime in the winter.”
Rondo reiterated what it is going to take for him to get back out on the court. It seems at this point, Rondo and the Celtics are content with taking their time with this injury. Considering the Celtics are in a transition year, it is probably smart to take it slow with Rondo, as Boston probably will be taking a step back this season.
“When I feel confident and don’t think about it and just go out there and play … I’ll be fine,” Rondo said. “I’ll be ready to go.”
