I’m going to keep this write-up short…About as short as Bobby Valentine’s stay in Boston is going to be if he keeps this up. The Boston Red Sox manager made his original lineup for tonight’s game against Minnesota as if they were facing a left-handed pitcher. He filled his lineup full of right-handed batters. Later, Valentine came to realize that the Minnesota pitcher, Liam Hendriks, was no left-hander and made the proper changes. Here’s what ESPN reports Valentine said:
I looked on this thing (his cellphone), and there was no history on him. It had his name, and ‘against left-handed hitting.’ My fault. That’s why you make these lineups out early enough.
Now here’s the worst part, Valentine didn’t catch his gaffe himself, he was told by his catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia. He actually made a lineup out relying on his cell phone??? Furthermore, this isn’t the first MLB game for Minnesota’s Hendriks. He was called up late last year and has pitched twice this season. Bobby V has already had issues in the clubhouse with his veteran ball players. This surely won’t help him gain any respect. This is not the start that he or the last place Red Sox (6-10) were looking for. So far, the Valentine hire has been a disaster. Do your homework, Bobby V!
