Bryce Harper (knee) will return to the Washington Nationals for Monday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers. The 20-year-old last played on May 26 and the Nationals desperately need a spark, as they are floundering in the NL, 6.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves, and 4.5 games behind the second Wild Card spot. Nobody has ever questioned Harpers toughness, as he continually bangs into walls, takes extra bases, and reminds this blogger of one Pete Rose in terms of his tenacity. Harper is excited about coming back, and even tweeted that he’d be spending the night in his uniform:

The Nationals need to answer expectations after a post-season appearance last year, and being a favorite in the East this year. Harper was among the league leaders with 12 home runs when he went down (one every 12.5 AB) and will certainly be a welcome bat in the middle of that lineup. And let me remind you, we are right at the half-way mark, one hot streak, and the standings change quickly.
