According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Oregon’s head football coach Chip Kelly has decided to stay at Oregon for another year, rather than take up the Philadelphia Eagles’ offer to become their head coach. Kelly was interviewed by multiple NFL teams, and the Browns and Eagles were seen as front runners for Kelly until the Browns dropped out and left just the Ducks and the Eagles to chose between.

Kelly will return to Oregon for his fifth season as the head coach after winning the Fiesta Bowl in Arizona on Friday night. It’s likely that money was a primary factor in the decision, as Nike’s co-founder and chairman, as well as a major booster, Phil Knight reportedly made a push for Kelly to stay with the Ducks. Kelly did, however, consider the Eagles’ job, and had a long lunch with the team on Saturday but he ultimately decided to stay with the Ducks, according to Schefter.

The Eagles, as well as the Browns, will start their search for a new head coach over again. The Browns have also interviewed former Cardinals head coach Ken Wisenhunt, Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton (who I think will ultimately land as a head coach somewhere), and Penn State head coach Bill O’Brien, who has decided to stay with the Nittany Lions. Philadelphia has already interviewed O’ Brien, Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, Falcons special team coach Keith Armstrong, and Falcons defensive coordinator Mike Nolan and are pending interviews with Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden, Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, and Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians.  It’s sure to be an intriguing ride to find a new head coach for both of these two teams.

To wrap up the situation, ESPN’s Darren Rovell gave us this tweet on Oregon booster Phil Knight.

Yeah, he’s got a lot of dough. Quite enough to lure Kelly back to Oregon, the closest thing you can get to a dynasty in college football
