The Milwaukee Brewers played a crazy game last night and the night/morning got crazier afterwards. The Chicago Cubs were in town and Miller Park saw a five-hour game, lasting 13 innings. The Brewers pulled off an 8-7 win. A 13th inning that saw starting second baseman, Rickie Weeks, get hit on the left wrist by a pitch thrown by Lendy Castillo, later saw Corey Hart win the game with an RBI single. Hart was the game’s hero, as he also tied the game in the bottom of the 9th with a two-run home run. Later in the morning, Hart’s night got crazier.
After the game, Hart received news that his wife, Kris Hart, hit a deer as she traveled home on Interstate 94. Apparently, their son was in the car as well. Corey Hart hurried to the scene to see heavy damage to the car, but most importantly, his wife and child were alright. According to Tom Haudricourt, of The Journal Sentinel, Corey Hart said:
She could have been killed…She was upset about the damage to the car. I told her not to worry about that…I’ve just got to get through this game and go home and get some sleep…The main thing is everybody is OK. We can get the car repaired.
That wasn’t all the news regarding post-game injuries to wives. Patty Iorg, wife of first base coach Garth Iorg, took a bad fall in Miller Park’s parking lot. She broke her left wrist and right elbow. Her wrist will require surgery.
The news continues. After Brewers closer, John Axford, blew his first save in 50 chances, he received notice that his wife, Nicole, had gone into premature labor! Nicole was rushed to the hospital, and after the game, John left a note for the media and sped to her side. The note said:
I put my wife into contractions with my performance tonight! The streak is over so now you can talk about it. The luck I’ve had in the past didn’t show up tonight! All I can do is start another streak and keep my head up! Cliché … cliché … cliché … another cliché. Gotta go! Love, Ax.
Wow! What a night!! As a man who is neutral to the Brewers’ success, this is one time I will say, I am glad they won the game. Fortunately, at this hour, everyone appears to be alright. The Reading Between The Seams’ staff wish all parties the best.
