Wes Welker fires back at Willie McGinest on Twitter 91

Oh boy, here we go. Former Patriots linebacker Willie McGinest, who jumped ship from New England to play for the lowly Browns in 2006, recently laid into current Patriots receiver Wes Welker for his “diva” attitude:

Willie had some harsh words for Wes Welker

“I just don’t like the diva attitude. Let’s keep it real — prior to the Patriots, this is a guy who played three years, had 96 receptions and never had a 1,000-yard season. Due to a big part of the Patriots offensive system and Tom Brady, he’s had five years where he’s had over 100 catches. … Let’s just keep everything in perspective — a big part of [Welker’s success] is due to the Patriots.”

I lean towards agreement with Willie there, I have always thought Welker excelled because of the Patriots “dink and dunk” offensive strategy and the premier quarterback of this generation, Tom Brady, putting the ball right on the numbers. We don’t know if Welker is worth top receiver money, simply because many believe, including myself, that if he played in a different offense not centered around underneath routes and short passes that his production would dramatically decrease.

Well, looks like Welker only needed to make one comeback, and it’s actually a good question that he fired at McGinest on Twitter:

Whether Welker was actually firing a shot back at Willie, who knows. But that is a good question considering McGinest called out Wes for wanting more money, but yet it was McGinest who left New England in the twilight of his career. It will be interesting to see how this situation plays out, it’s nice to see Patriots news that doesn’t revolve around Tom Brady’s uggs or Coach Bill’s cutoff hoodie.
