Houston Astros Jarred Cosart has near perfect major league debut 96

I don’t think Houston Astros Jarred Cosart could have scripted his major league debut any better.  And up against odds.  Facing the hottest team in major league baseball in the Tampa Bay Rays (8-game winning streak, which had started in Houston on the fourth of July).  He was facing the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner in David Price.  And your team has lost 13 of their last 17 games and showing little sign of turning things around.

So what did Cosart do?  Took a no-hitter into the 7th inning, pitched into the 9th inning, allowed a scant 2 hits, and earned his first major league victory and a face full of shaving cream during his postgame interview.

Jarred Cosart was one of the two key players in the Hunter Pence trade in 2011 from the Philadelphia Phillies.  Cosart is a native of southeast Houston’s Clear Creek High School and grew up an Astros fan.  Cosart is the first of the marquee prospects the Astros traded for (or drafted) during their massive rebuilding project with two straight 100-loss seasons and first overall draft picks and headed for a third.

Like I said, can you script this any better?  I guess it could have been at home.

And for his work, Houston Astros manager Bo Porter announced he would be demoted back to AAA, for one thing to get in regular work during the MLB All Star break, and another, the Astros can use four starters the first week plus after the break with days off.

Best tasting cup of coffee ever.
