After Johan Santana no-hit the St. Louis Cardinals Friday night, Rafael Diaz made national news by going to jail for rushing the field after the final out was recorded. Diaz is an admitted Mets fanatic, and as reported to by the New York Post, he explained why he decided to illegally hop the rail and enter the field. Diaz said, “I was overcome with emotion, just being a die-hard Mets fan.” Well, Diaz’s actions came with stiff consequences. Not only did he spend 38 hours locked in jail while receiving news that he will be facing a one-year misdemeanor criminal charge, Diaz also missed his son’s first birthday party Saturday night. Now, was it worth it? I would say not, but I’m not so sure Diaz feels that way. When asked was his trip to the slammer worth missing the birthday celebration, his response was, “You’ll have to ask my wife that.”

Rafael Diaz’s buddy, John Ries, was arrested along with him. Both are due back in court on July 2. They are likely to receive probation due to previously clean records.

Here is the video of the celebration. If you look closely, at about the 30 second mark, you will see Diaz getting slammed to the ground by security. Oh yeah, he has also been banned for life from Mets home games.
