Finally, Carolina gets a name at wide receiver. Although former Steelers wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery has served as a backup for the majority of his career, he’ll be the number one option as a Panther.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Thursday that the deal between Carolina and Cotchery is being finalized now. With Steve Smith, Brandon LaFell, Ted Ginn, and Domenik Hixon hitting the free agency market, Cotchery by far is the best receiver that the Panthers have.
Cotchery had a career-high ten touchdowns last season in Pittsburgh while playing in all 16 games and starting in six of them. This upcoming season will mark his tenth year in the league. The wide out vet was contemplating a return to the Steel City, but has opted to go to Carolina, where a starting role is guaranteed as the Panthers are quite thin at receiver.
