Free agent safety Kerry Rhodes is reportedly considering four teams for his 2013 destination. However, the ex-Cardinal and Jet refused to speak on which teams in particular he is considering. Rhodes is one of two top veteran safeties still available; Quintin Mikell being the other, and Mikell has reportedly attracted some interest from the Carolina Panthers within the week.
“It’s in the works,” Rhodes told Al.com. “I can’t talk about it in depth but there’s a good four teams that I’m looking at. There are ongoing discussions. I’m trying to see which one will be the best fit for me. You will see me, though.”
Rhodes missed just one game of the Cardinals 2012-2013 regular season. In fifteen games Rhodes recorded 58 solo tackles, two forced fumbles, and four interceptions. Rhodes was later released by Arizona on March 13.
He revealed later that an announcement would come in a week or so regarding where he would sign for the 2013-’14 season.
“I don’t want to sway the negotiations at all,” Rhodes said. “That would be the ideal. Most situations aren’t ideal any way. You have to adapt to it and move on.”
Reports of interest in Rhodes come at an interesting time. The veteran recently associated himself with some headlines many teams attempt to stay clear of.
Earlier in the year rumors surfaced that Rhodes was a homosexual. Rhodes quickly denied the rumors vigorously. But while the rumors began to fizzle in late June, Rhodes was caught trying to deter doubters yet again.
When the baby of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian was born Rhodes took to it to end the conversation once and for all.
According to bossip.com a text from Rhodes to a number of others read, “Man this could be my baby!! I was fu**ing her the same time as K.West was lol!!!”
Not exactly a stand-up thing to say after someone has a child.
“Kerry wants everyone to think he’s straight,” a friend told bossip.com. “He is so desperate that he will drag Kim Kardashian and Kanye West into this drama just so people can associate him with a woman instead of a man. It’s just sad at this point because everyone knows he’s gay…” While Rhodes told Al.com that the whole incident is “over to him”, it was not very long ago these rumors were active. The whole thing could be serving as a distraction, deterring available teams.
Would you want Rhodes on your favorite team? Is he worth the possible distraction?
