The Chicago White Sox General Manager, Ken Williams, who happens to be the Father of 49ers WR/KR Kyle Williams spoke out today of the audio that was released of former Saints Defensive Coordinator Gregg Williams speaking to his players prior to the Saints/49ers playoff game played at Candlestick Park last season.
Gregg Williams said about Kyle Williams to his defenders “We need to find out in the first two series of the game, the little wide receiver, No. 10, about his concussion,” Williams said. “We need to [expletive] put a lick on him, move him to decide. He needs to decide.”
Gregg Williams also went on to talk about hits to Alex Smith, Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter, and Michael Crabtree “We need to decide whether Crabtree wants to be a fake-ass prima donna or he wants to be a tough guy. We need to find that out, and he becomes human when you [expletive] take out that outside ACL.”
In light of all this, Ken Williams was interviewed today via the Chicago Tribune . Ken Williams said that it would be better to not put him and Gregg in the same room together.
“To answer the questions directed specifically to me, as a father first and foremost, I am glad to report Kyle’s concussion tests have been extremely positive and we are grateful he is ready and anxious to get back to competition. Personally, suspension or not, it’s probably best I’m never in a room with (Gregg) Williams and wonder if such an order crosses the lines of the aggressive, competitive spirit we all know and love about the sport and leans closer to a criminal act and therefore litigious matter.”
The last words there are very intriguing, “Litigious Matter”. A matter in which would be heard in court. Last week the NFLPA announced that they have hired lawyers for Saints players involved in bounty gate that could be facing criminal charges. The two words at the end of Ken Williams’ statement makes it sound like they will be moving forward with a lawsuit.
The timing of this audio being leaked, as first reported by Mike Silver of Yahoo! Sports has been labeled as questionable. The day that Saints HC, Assistant Coach, and GM are due to have their appeals heard regarding their punishments, the tape was released. The NFL issued a statement that these recordings were not part of the investigation, but now they will be.
Gregg Williams “indefinite suspension” may be turning into a Lifetime Ban from the NFL, and I wouldn’t have an issue with that whatsoever.
There will be alot more information coming forward here in the next few weeks with the NFLPA requesting the investigation findings to be made more public, and the players 22-27 players involved are expected to be punished here shortly. Keep your eyes out for more developments on the stories.
