When the Cleveland Browns selected quarterback Johnny Manziel with the 22nd overall pick, they were probably expecting to have to deal with a few off-the-field issues as the media follows Manziel every where. Unfortunately, I do not think the Browns were ready to deal with this much attention so quickly. While there have been several photos of Manziel partying with a number of celebrities and using a stack of money as a phone, the most troubling picture so far this off-season has been the one of Manziel rolling a twenty dollar bill at a bathroom sink.
Rolled dollar bills are often used for snorting cocaine and while there is no evidence of Manziel using the drug, the Cleveland Brown’s head coach Mike Pettine has already spoken to Manziel about the photos.
“I don’t want to get into a (public) discussion of every picture that comes out, but I talked to him about it,” Pettine told Mary Kay Cabot of The Plain Dealer. “We anticipate this will quiet down once the season starts. As committed as Johnny is to football, this stuff should not be an issue once camp gets underway.”
While the Browns have stated they will not name a starting quarterback until the third preseason game, they have to be hoping their first round draft pick learns to stay out of the spotlight during the season. Although, if Manziel can lead the Browns to victory on Sundays, I doubt anyone in Cleveland will care what he does Monday through Saturday.
