Update to story below: The Vikings have hired Mike Zimmer as their new head coach, per Adam Schefter.
Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer has been a hot head coaching candidate for a few years, and many have said this is the year he takes the next step and is hired by a team.
Several of the teams he interviewed for have filled their vacancies, but the Vikings called him in for a second interview earlier this week.
That must have went well for both sides, as Zimmer and the team are nearing a deal that would make him their next head coach, according to Chris Mortenson at ESPN.
Mike Zimmer and Vikings are moving toward a deal, hoping to complete negotiations by today, per league sources.

Zimmer has been coaching in the league since 1994 when he started as a defensive backs coach for the Cowboys. He was later elevated to defensive coordinator where he served the same role for both the Falcons and Bengals.
The Bengals will have lost both coordinators to head coaching gigs. Jay Gruden was hired by Washington, and the Vikings hope they have their guy in Zimmer.
The Bengals defense has been one of the best defenses in the league under Zimmer and the Vikings hope he brings the same approach to a young, talented defensive roster.
