Today, Ndamukong Suh spoke to reporters for the first time since he returned to Detroit for off-season workouts. According to ProFootballTalk.com, Suh told reporters that he would no longer talk about his contract extension. However, the most shocking part of Suh’s interview with reporters was when he suggested he could have chose where he got drafted.
“Probably a lot of you guys don’t know, I could have gone elsewhere when I was drafted,” Suh said, via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. “Had that decision in my hands. I chose not to take it because that’s just the way I saw it.”
Reporters then asked Suh how he could have gone to another team and he added “There’s many ways to do things. You can drop down in the draft, you can move up.”
Suh was then reminded that he did not really have a choice in which team drafted him.
And while that normally is the case, Suh believes he definitely did have a choice in where he was drafted.
“It is my choice. It is for sure, my choice. But like I said, that’s water under the bridge. I’m here in Detroit, I’m happy to be here in Detroit.”
I am not sure if this is some strange attempt by Suh to get leverage over Detroit but I do not think this will work. I also wonder if Suh understands how the draft process works and while Eli Manning did decide not to join San Diego in 2004, he is a quarterback and that was an unusual situation.
I would have loved to hear Suh elaborate a bit more on this but instead he walked off the podium and finished answering questions.
