The New England Patriots claimed Tyler Gaffney, a rookie out of Stanford, off waivers on Monday.
The Carolina Panthers waived Tyler Gaffney after he suffered he tore the lateral meniscus in his left knee.
Gaffney was drafted by the Panthers in the sixth round of the draft and was injured after just one play from scrimmage at training camp.
He is set to undergo season ending surgery this week to repair his knee.
Though Gaffney is unavailable for the Patriots this season, the Panthers knew that he would be a great player, and it was hard for them to let him go.
“This has nothing to do with him as a player,” Dave Gettleman, the Panthers general manager, said in an interview with the Charlotte Observer. This had everything to do with the injury situation with him and the position.”
