Philadelphia Eagles and the St. Louis Rams are Interested in Cleveland’s No.4 Pick 77

The draft is less than two weeks away and as expected, the talk is heating up between teams who are jockeying for position to grab the “best talent” available. The Cleveland Browns hold the No.4 pick and it is reported by league sources, from The Plain Dealer, that there is “a decent chance” the Browns would move down in the draft.

Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill, USC offensive tackle Matt Kalil, LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne and Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon were cited in the report as possible targets for teams interested in trading up. It is also reported that more than half the teams that hold a top 10 pick have contacted other teams about trading out.

Ryan Tannehill

I expected that Cleveland would be talking with teams about trading their pick, and I am in no way surprised that the Eagles are interested in acquiring it. Their current quarterback Micheal Vick  is a great athlete, but has always been injured at some point throughout the season. They need some stability there. If they were to draft Tannehill, he could sit behind Vick before he has to play. I believe that if  Tannehill is drafted to another team and forced into a starting role before he is ready, it will ruin him before he gets a true fighting chance.

No matter what happens the Browns are in a comfortable position; they hold the most picks in the 2012 NFL Draft and have traded back in the first round in two of the last three years.

Expect more stories to follow in regard to the NFL Draft, this drama is far from finished. Many football guys say that the football season is like running a marathon, well the NFL Draft is like running a sprint; the one with the best start usually finishes first. Expect the Eagles to receive the No.4 pick.
