Seahawks corner back Richard Sherman has made quite the name for himself in 2012. His confident attitude, a Performance Enhancing Drug abuse suspension (which was overturned after an appeal), and his Pro Bowl-caliber season (seen as many as the top snub) have compounded to make him a household name in the league.
After an October comeback-win over the Patriots, Sherman posted a picture on Twitter of him shouting at quarterback Tom Brady with a “U MAD BRO?” meme. Sherman also countered Calvin Johnson’s “Megatron” name with a Transformer name of his own, Optimus Prime, before his Week 9 showdown with the record breaking receiver (Johnson was held to just three catches for 46 yards).
It came without saying that Sherman was going to make some ruckus before the Seahawks take on the Redskins in the Wildcard round of the playoff. When asked what Redskins wide receivers worried him by USA Today, Sherman came up with a fairly simple reply: “None of them.”
Sherman continued after the reporter asked about Pierre Garcon: “I don’t think so. Not that I know of.”
Sherman has been the most successful corner in the league this season, and has graded out that way on ProFootballFocus. However, Sherman, a fifth-round pick in 2011, also gained many haters on the way to his success. Here’s a quote from that USA Today story that that I linked to earlier:
“Everybody has haters,” Sherman said. “People think Jesus didn’t exist. They think he wasn’t a miracle worker. There are people who say he didn’t walk on water, or he only walked on water because he couldn’t swim. Those people’s opinions mean dirt to me.”
Sherman is looking to knock those haters again against quite possibly the most athletic and hardest to defend quarterback in the league right now, Robert Griffin III. With a wager between the two cities on the line, it’s sure to be a great, physical match-up.
