Since being drafted by the Oakland Raiders in 2010, Rolando McClain’s NFL career has been marked by off-the-field issues. Over the last three years, McClain has been arrested five times, with the latest arrest coming April 21, 2013 for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
Due to his off-the-field problems, McClain was released by the Oakland Raiders earlier this off-season and signed with the Baltimore Ravens.
However, McClain will not be playing for the Baltimore Ravens this year.
Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome, announced today that McClain is retiring from the NFL.
“Rolando let me know that he plans to retire from the NFL,” Newsome said in a statement from the team. “We have placed him on the Reserve/Retired list.”
Hopefully this means McClain will get the help he needs to stay out of trouble. Maybe after he has his life in order, he can return to the NFL.
