Ryan Mathews “day to day” following car accident 55

Chargers running back Ryan Mathews is listed as day to day after being banged up in a minor car accident on Monday. Mathews sat out Tuesdays practice as a result of the crash, but he suffered no serious injuries.

Mathews said he banged up his elbow and was a little bit sore when asked by reporters on Tuesday.

“I felt like I played about four games (Monday) when I woke up this (Tuesday) morning.”

As reported by the UT San Diego News:

The 24-year-old NFL player was entering east Interstate 8 at Sports Arena Boulevard when he lost control of his 2010 BMW and hit another vehicle, California Highway Patrol Officer Mary Bailey said Tuesday.

Mathews complained of pain, so he was taken to the hospital for further examination. He was released soon after. The police officer noted that he was possibly driving too fast, but that neither drugs or alcohol appeared to be involved.

Mathews said that he was in a hurry to return to the team facility after watching a movie at home. He felt himself drifting while he was driving and overcompensated, which caused his car to spin out.

The other driver was un-injured in the accident.

There was no violation of our curfew,”  Head Coach Norv Turner said. “We’re very fortunate that Ryan or no one else was hurt in the accident. Unfortunately, there are automobile accidents at times…  I’m just very thankful he was not injured and the other party was not injured.”

Mathews shouldn’t miss much time and will certainly be on the field again sooner rather than later.
