This off-season the New York Jets traded pro-bowl corner back Darrelle Revis to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for this year’s 1st round draft pick (13th overall) and a conditional pick in 2014. Revis only started two games for the Jets last season after tearing his ACL during the team’s week 3 win over Miami. Despite the injury, Revis says he will be ready for the Buccaneers week one game against his old team, the New York Jets.
Buccaneers general manager Mark Dominik shared his belief that Revis will be ready.
“Totally confident,” Dominik said. “He’s in great shape right now, he’s running full speed, he’s cutting, he’s doing all the things we’d want him to do from a training standpoint, a rehabilitation standpoint.”
With the optimism that Revis will be back for week one, his former teammate Santonio Holmes says he wants to match up against Revis.
“It would be a great matchup, it would be a lot of fun to go out there against an old nemesis,” Holmes said, via Seth Walder of the New York Daily News. “A guy who’s coming off an injury himself, I wish him much success this season, and hopefully he’s prepared and ready just like I will be.”
Holmes, who is trying to return from a Lisfranc foot injury himself, added that his rehab is like trying to learn to walk again.
“It’s been that hard to just get the feeling of your body to move in an everyday motion for so many years,” he said. “To have something like this happen, it kind of puts a damper in your whole physical ability to do anything.”
Hopefully both players will be healthy and ready by week one because this match up would make for a must watch game.
