Steelers Activate RB Mendenhall from PUP 94

It came as a surprise to many, as the Pittsburgh Steelers announced that they have activated Running Back Rashard Mendenhall from it’s Phisically-unable-to-Perform (PUP) list today.

Early in the offseason it was thought that the team would be without the back for the majority of the season, if not all of it.

Mendenhall suffered a torn ACL in Pittsburgh’s Season Finale against the rival Browns in January. The injury required surgery and Mendy was expected to miss 8-12 months. Steelers GM Kevin Colbert said last week that he’d be surprised to see Mendenhall start the season on PUP, and that would cause him to miss at least the first six weeks of the season.

Although he’s not ready to take the field quite yet, activating him means that as soon as he’s ready he’ll be able to return, be it week one or not.

The news comes as a relief for Steelers fans as they have been struggling to find an answer at RB during Mendehall’s absence, as the corps of guys they have now have had a hard time staying healthy.

Mendenhall rushed for 928 yards last season while accounting for nine touchdowns.

The team also announced that NT Casey Hampton was activated from PUP as well.
