The Panthers released receiver Steve Smith Sr. in the offseason after a long drawn out process of leaving Cam Newton without many weapons.
They seemed to do okay on Sunday without him, but Smith Sr. made them look foolish with his play on Sunday without skipping a beat. The Panthers reportedly opted to pay Smith a nice chunk of money to leave rather than make his regularly scheduled salary while helping out the offense.
On Sunday after a big play, ProFootballTalk tweeted that the Panthers paid Smith Sr. $3 Million to walk instead of paying him his scheduled $7 Million.
After seeing the tweet, Smith felt as if he should correct their reporting.
“@ProFootballTalk: Panthers paid Steve Smith $3 million to leave instead of $7 million to keep him.” actually I received $5 million

Way to go, Steve. Get ’em.
The Panthers won on Sunday without Smith or Newton – but we’ll see how the season goes without one of their best playmakers over the years.
