Maybe it’s time the Arizona Cardinals start getting some respect. They went (10-6) last year, and in a division that now houses the last two NFC Champions and current Super Bowl champions no less. What’s impressive is what Arizona accomplished last year. Nobody really gave them much of a chance. A brand new Head Coach and a new Quarterback usually points to another rebuilding year. However, that was not the case. Not only did they earn their fourth winning season in Arizona, but they were also the only team in the last two years to knock off the Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks at home. Yes coach Bruce Arians definitely has his players soaring high with confidence right now, and why shouldn’t they be? They have one of the NFL’s most aggressive defenses. The Arizona Cardinals have a lethal defense that is completely in unison and an offense with oodles of talent.
On Thursday afternoon, former NFL Coach and current NBC analyst Tony Dungy made a guest appearance on the Doug and Wolf show on Arizona Sports 98.7. He had nothing but good things to say about Arians’s Cards.
Not only were Dungy’s words encouraging to Cardinals fans, they’re also very true. Arizona was one Larry Fitzgerald fumble away from beating the 49ers in San Francisco and nearly rallied to beat them in their regular season finale. Had they not muffed their 1st game against the Rams in week one of the season, Arizona potentially could have swept The 49ers and Rams while also defeating Seattle on the road. Every one of those losses turned into wins would’ve put the Cardinals at (13-3) and as the number one seed in the playoffs.
The gap between their division foes is definitely small.
“They’ve got a great defense; they’re fast and aggressive, just like Seattle is,” Dungy added. “They’re very, very close.
Tony Dungy is one of many critics starting to realize that the Arizona Cardinals are steadily on the rise.
Perhaps a Super Bowl Championship may not be that far off for the Redbirds of Arizona. Only time will tell, but one thing is for certain. The Cardinals are getting stronger and more disciplined, while playing in the NFL’s toughest division.
