NFL QB took wife to Arby’s for their wedding dinner

  • Jason Whitney

Minnesota Vikings’ quarterback Christian Ponder may have a nice check to cash from having a job in the NFL, but that doesn’t mean he won’t slum it at Arby’s once in a while. In fact, Ponder must have taken a liking to the fast food joint, because he took his beautiful wife, Samantha Ponder, to Arby’s for their wedding dinner.

Samantha Ponder was recently interviewed by Bob Sansevere of the St. Paul Pioneer Press and talked about her wedding and the special dinner they shared that night.

I never was really a girl who planned out what my wedding would be, what my dress would look like. Everybody’s different. When we got married, he picked me up at the airport and I was wearing jeans and a sweatshirt and a hat. We drove the 20 minutes to Hudson or whatever it was, walked in, got married. Then we went and ate Arby’s as our wedding meal. We get way more attention than we ever deserve or need or want, because of our jobs. I don’t need a day that’s all about me. I was happy to go get married. That night after we had our Arby’s, we forgot the offensive line had an Ugly Sweater Party at a local restaurant. One of the guys texted Christian and asked, “Dude, where are you at?” We went to the mall and found ugly sweaters and went to the Ugly Sweater Party. We wanted to leave early, but everybody was like, “No, don’t leave.” I’m thinking, “Gosh, we just got married.”

That a boy Christian! Still no word on if the honeymoon took place at Chuck E Cheese’s or not, but once we find out we will let you know!

  • hope they had a great meal no every day is a hoilyday not every meal a banquet the imporant thing is they love each other

    • Gotta love everyday people like these 2…………

      • Unfortunately this is not an “everyday people” kind of event. Most “everyday people” couldn’t stomach the thought of this. I wish more people had a backbone to stand up against the pressures of commercialism in this country and live more like this. Maybe it wouldn’t make it so hard for those who tried to live like this. For the record we stopped by McDonald’s on the way home. We, also, are more interested in the result of the marriage than the wedding.

    • Amen. Two people who are happy and enjoying life. CP may not be an allstar QB but he must be an allstar person to attract such a smart, beautiful woman. Hope you have a golden anniversary.

  • Maybe that’s where she wanted to go. I had Chicken Nuggets at my reception. Arby’s is a good place to go. She may have been craving curley fries.

  • My next wedding reception will be at Arby’s … I’ve always been a sucker for their shakes and turnovers, anyway!
All the best to the happy couple!

  • You gotta love everday people like these 2….

  • Hey maybe a commercial contract will come up worked for joe flako with mc Donald’s

  • What difference does it make where they eat? Everybody trying to get into other folks business. For God’s sake it was a meal.

  • Hey! Better than a gold-digger! Bet he splurged on Curly-Fries!

  • Sounds like white trash to me. You can take the man/woman out of the trailer park, but you can’t take the trailer park out of the man/woman!

  • Why does it matter where they eat? Is everyone really so bored and ready to look for anything to pick on that they are judging where they ate?!? For heavens sake! It would be different MAYBE if they had an actual wedding with family and friends but they went to the courthouse. They can eat where they want and do whatever they want to do without people judging them. You wouldn’t want people to judge you for doing what you do…

  • Their wedding was just a spare-of-the-moment thing. I praise them and wishing them a happy marriage! My wife and I had dinner and reception at my sister-in-laws (wife’s sisters’) home, and had a great time. Unfortunately, we still have yet (after 25 years) had our honeymoon. Perhaps (LORD willing) when we do renew our vowels….at the thirty-year mark; I’ll take my sweetheart to Hawaii. :-)

    • I usually don’t post on sites. In fact, this may be the 1st ever! But…….., to Kacy above. I know everyone didn’t go to an Ivy League school, or score 1600 on their SAT. But, you have been married 25 years & think they are VOWELS?!?!?! Omg, my heart skipped a beat I think. A,E,I,O,U & (sometimes Y) are vowels. What you said to your wife 25 yrs ago are VOWS. For the record-I hate to nit-pick but, it’s spur-of-the-moment; not spare. I hate to say this, but(I know another but) I kinda see why you have yet to take your sweetheart to Hawaii :( sry, I know I’m gonna burn for that. Please bring me ice water. lol

  • I think it is awesome that they just went to Arby’s because it shows that it is truly about love and not how much money is spent that woman is a keeper and I’m sure he will surprise her later by splurging on a date to show his appreciation that he loves her.

  • im all for arbys.. I would do the same thing in a heartbeat.. I would chow down large curly fries, 2 roast beef n cheddars… order some mozzarella sticks with dip, roast chicken club and then order all of this again to go

  • Being from Minnesota, and having actually followed their courtship through the Minneapolis papers, Arby’s is one of the first places they went while dating. Personally, as many have said above, it’s not the glitz and glamour and 5 Star places you go, but it’s the company in which you keep. They love each other, support each other and are 2 very down to earth people who happen to be in the public spotlight. Too often these couples get lost in anonymity because they don’t become fodder for tabloids or TMZ. It’s too bad, because couples like this deserve the very spotlight they work so dilligently to avoid.

  • Hope she got some horsey sauce!!!! Arbys is actually a very good place for fairly good and healthy chow…

  • It means they will not ended up broke. Have no problem with this story because love is very essential. I have read about people getting hitched; then go out for their honeymoon only to end up dead. Arby’s and everyone is happy. Great story, and not a death story.

  • All i can say is he saved $20k and no regrets or drama.. Cool wife..

  • Hot + Low maintenance + cool personality = C. Ponder wins

  • Maybe he wanted to show her where his next jobs gonna be.

  • For the life of me I just cant figure out why anyone would criticize and belittle a person for where the eat (even if it is just after their marriage). You critical people need to get a life and stop trying to tell others how to live their lives. It is great to see more folks had favorable comments about their choice of dining than those who were extremely critical. I hope you guys have a long and happy marriage.

  • Where did the Honeymoon happen in the Bridal Suite under I-35.

  • I question not the dinner or the married couple. I question the motivations and intent of the person who posted this story. Are they trying to quilt trip someone? Are they trying to encourage an “entitlement attitude” in women?

Possibly this couple won’t be part of the 96 percent of Americans who are unable support themselves at age sixty five..

It’s good to see that so many people just didn’t go for it.

  • Ponder & his wife better get used to eating fast food. He will be out of a job soon…
