The sad tale of Rick DiPietro…has just gotten a little sadder. The former No. 1 overall pick, who was recently demoted to the AHL after the Islanders got tired of his lackluster play and numerous injuries, couldn’t even cut it in his first game for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
DiPietro got pulled just one period into his first start for Bridgeport after allowing five goals on 12 shots in a game against the Connecticut Whale. This of course comes after DiPietro described his being waived and then demoted by the Islanders like they had “ripped his heart out, stabbed it, set it on fire, then flushed it down the toilet“.
Still, it’s not all bad in the world of Goalie Jesus. For one, the Sound Tigers head coach Scott Pellerin still has faith in DiPietro, and has said that he’ll get the start in Bridgeport’s next game. And secondly….there’s still that $67 million contract which will keep DiPietro rolling in cash until 2021. Let’s not all shed a tear for ol’ DP just yet.
