Alex Rodriguez a late scratch for Yankees with Flu-Like symptoms
About 45 minutes before today’s Yankees/Orioles matchup began, the Yankees announced that third baseman Alex Rodriguez would be a late scratch for today’s game. The team says that the reason is due to “flu-like symptoms”.
Mark Reynolds (who was slated to start at first base) replaced Rodriguez at third, and Lyle Overbay came off the bench to play first. In the original lineup, Rodriguez was going to bat fifth.
Rodriguez has been passable at the plate since his return from injury. Entering Saturday, he was batting .280 with four home runs and 10 RBI’s in 22 games in 2013.
He went 1-4 in a big win on Friday against Baltimore with an RBI single. The team won that matchup 8-5. It’s most definitely crunch time right now for the Yankees, who are desperately trying to make up ground in the American League playoff hunt. But is it too little too late for the Bronx Bombers?
As of this writing, the Yankees lead the Orioles 1-0 in the top of the 2nd inning.
