Antonio Cromartie Admits to Getting a Vasectomy

  • Dave Ragazzo

No one has ever confused Antonio Cromartie with a brain surgeon but on Wednesday, Cromartie found himself in the news for arguably the greatest decision he has ever made.  According to the NY Post, a book to be released next week writes that Cromartie got a vasectomy last year in a move that will prevent any more Cromarties from gracing this earth.

Cromartie has ten children with eight different women around the country so it might be too late for this move.  It had been reported in 2012 that the eight women wanted to make a reality TV show about their relationship and how all of the half siblings interact with one another.  Imagine that?  What would it be called?  How about “Antonio Cromartie Plus 10:  Fielding His Own Team.”

The best part of the whole thing is that Cromartie will not be confused with more names to remember when asked to name his kids.  For those of you who do not get that last reference, here is a video of Cro on Hard Knocks in 2010 struggling to remember the names of his then eight children.

Now back to this whole vasectomy thing.  The book that broke the news is entitled “Collision Low Crossers: A Year Inside the Turbulent World of NFL Football,” written by Nicholas Dawidoff, who followed the Jets in 2012.  In this particular passage, he talks about how players were un-interested in walk throughs except for Cromartie, who was constantly thinking about football:

“Walk-throughs the day before the game were uninteresting to most players, but not to Cromartie, who could never spend enough time on a football field. Cro had recently submitted to a vasectomy — ‘I got snipped,’ as he told [Dawidoff]. Eric Smith surveyed the jubilant, excised cornerback and said fondly, ‘I wish it had calmed him down!’”

Well Eric Smith, it may have caused Cromartie to calm down in one area of his life.  To me, this is a smart decision for Cromartie but something he should have done years ago.  What is the point for him to do this now when he is happily married?  If he wanted to focus on birth control, maybe he should have used those condoms that NuVo gave him and his teammates three weeks ago.

Knowing Cromartie’s off the field hobbies, those may have been used up in just a few days.
