Manuel sprained his knee October 3rd on Thursday Night Football against the Cleveland Browns. He has been sidelined since. Last week he started to take part in very limited practice with the team.

Bills fans can finally give a sigh of relief. After Manuel went out, undrafted rookie QB Jeff Tuel went in and, well, didn’t look too hot. Tuel went 8-20 for 80 yards, 0 TDs and 1 INT.

That’s why later in the week, Buffalo elevated practice squad QB, Thad Lewis, to the main roster. Unlike Tuel, Thad impressed against the tough Bengals D going 19-32 for 216 yards, 2 passing TDs, 1 rushing TD and 0 interceptions, but ultimately lost the bout.

Lewis then lead the Bills to a win against division rival Miami Dolphins, in Miami. Lewis went 21-32 for 202 yards. No TDs and 1 INT. However, on the 1st play the following week, Lewis hurt his ribs after taking a massive hit from the Saints defense, causing a fumble.

Because of said hit, Lewis missed Buffalo’s week 9 game against undefeated foe, the Kansas City Chiefs. Tuel got the start and looked good for the 1st half but ended up throwing a 100 yard pick-6 that the Bills were not able to come back from.

But now it’s up to head coach Doug Marrone to evaluate Manuel’s injury during the week at practice before putting him in against the Steelers in week 10. Having Manuel back for the game against the Steelers could be great for Manuel. The Steelers’ D isn’t the Steelers’ D of past. This could be a great opportunity for Manuel to get his confidence back.

As a Bills fan, I hope Manuel learned from his mistake. Hopefully, next time he decides to scramble for the 1st down, he gets out of bounds ASAP. Welcome back EJ, we’ve missed you.
