Bills Place Qb Kolb on Season Ending IR List
Buffalo, NY- Buffalobills.com reports that the Bills have officially placed veteran QB Kevin Kolb on season ending injured reserve list.
Many thought Kolb could turn his career around in Buffalo after taking numerous beatings in Philadelphia, then Arizona. Buffalo is known for a solid offensive line. That wasn’t the case this time. FIrst, Kolb has a freak accident by slipping on a wet mat at St. John Fisher College during training camp and hurts his knee, forcing him to miss a week of practice and their 1st preseason game. Then Kolb scrambled for a 1st down late in the 1st quarter of the Bills 3rd preseason game against the Redskins and got hit in the back of the head after the play was over, suffering a severe concussion.
This all but gives the starting QB job to rookie 1st round pick, EJ Manuel once he returns from having a minor knee procedure.
Head coach Doug Marrone said they may consider making Kolb the designated to return player off of injured reserve. But, seeing as this is Kolb’s 3rd reported concussion in 4 seasons, his return would seems extremely doubtful.
The Bills also placed WR Brad Smith and undrafted free agent FB Drew Smith on the IR list.
Smith sustained a rib injury in the Bills’ final preseason game Thursday night against the Lions and did not return.
Head coach Doug Marrone said after the game that if he broke any ribs the injury timetable would be longer. The IR designation shows an indication that his injury is more sever than they thought.
