Bills’ Stevie Johnson Plays Amid Tragic Loss

  • Matt Schantz

A tough season for Bills veteran wide receiver Steve Johnson just got a lot more tough.

After the Bills win in Jacksonville, word broke that Johnson’s mother, Rhonda, had passed away unexpectedly Saturday, according to Tim Graham of the Buffalo News. Johnson caught one pass for four yards in the Bills’ 27-20 win over Jacksonville.

Head coach Doug Marrone said, in his postgame press conference, that he respected Johnson’s decision to play, according to WKBW’s Jeff Russo. Johnson has been under a lot of scrutiny over the past few games after dropping several crucial passes and fumbling the football against the Falcons two weeks ago. Today, however, everyone should be respectful of his decision to play, even if it was only for one catch. It showed tremendous character out of Johnson.

Our thoughts are with Stevie Johnson and his family during this hard time.
