The injury bug has hit Buffalo yet again this preseason. A groin injury is a pretty serious injury for a kicker. He is only 22 years old, so hopefully he can fully recover.
The Bills have not ruled him out for Sunday’s season opener against AFC East rivals the New England Patriots. But signing Carpenter, and more importantly, filling the teams final roster spot, shows the team may be doubtful that he’ll be ready in 6 days.
Hopkins won the kicking battle in Buffalo after beating out incumbent kicker Rian Lindell, who now kicks for Tampa Bay.
The Bills are often plagued with injuries during the season. That is one thing they needed to avoid to be successful.
Carpenter made 22 of 27 field goals last season with the Dolphins. He is 127/155 for his career.
