Bills Sign Safety Jim Leonhard
— Buffalo Bills (@buffalobills) September 2, 2013
Leonhard was an undrafted free agent rookie that the Bills signed in 2005. He was signed by the Ravens in 2008 when he became a free agent. Then he played for the Jets in 2009, racking up 76 tackles.
Leonhard visited the Bills before training camp in 2012, but ultimately signed with the Denver Broncos.
Bills head coach Doug Marrone believes Leonhard’s experience will be valuable.
“At any position where you have someone that has a lot of experience and is a veteran can definitely help, if you have a veteran at a position it’s like having an extra. It’s a benefit. You feel great about it. They’re going to be able to help.”
Leonhard’s experience under Bills defensive coordinator Mike Pettine and the knowledge of his defensive scheme doesn’t hurt either. “That’s a bonus and he’s played well,” said Marrone. “He’s played well. He was down there in New Orleans and did a nice job.”
The Bills are now at 52 players out of 53 poster spots.
