Buffalo Bills Sign DB Don Unamba
Penfield, NY- The Buffalo Bills announced via Buffalobills.com, that the team has signed Defensive Back Don Unamba. The deal was not disclosed, as per team policy.
The St. Louis Rams had signed Unamba as an undrafted free agent after April’s NFL Draft. Unamba was released by the Rams June 14th. Unamba, a 6’1″, 192 lbs DB from Southern Arkansas, set a school record with 17 pass break-ups in only 11 starts. He also placed 5th on the team, in 2012, with 47 tackles (37 solo) and 3 interceptions.
Bills have an off day Thursday, at St. John Fisher College. So once the team hits the field Friday, August 2nd, the SAU rookie will compete for a spot on the 53-man roster against rookies: Jordan Dangerfield (Towson), Jonathan Meeks (Clemson), Nickell Robey (USC), Jumal Rolle (Catawba) and veterans: Dominique Ellis, T.J. Heath, Justin Rogers, and Mana Silva. Unamba will be wearing number 45.
Biggest question Unamba will face will be if the rookie is versatile enough to play in 1st year-Defensive Coordinator Mike Pettine’s hybrid 3-4/4-3 defense. Pettine has showed no hesitance in cutting players, such as fan favorites: S George Wilson and LB Nick Barnett.
