Dee Milliner called out by Antonio Cromartie, Rex Ryan

  • Tad Johnson

Dee Milliner, the Jets rookie CB, struggled against the Jacksonville Jaguars Saturday night. Add that to the fact that he’s a rookie trying to fill the void left by Darrelle Revis, and the pressure is definitely on. Some others at Jets camp seem to have noticed that he’s struggling, and in typical Jets fashion, they ran straight to the media to air it out.

Fellow CB Antonio Cromartie had a few words to say about him after the game, and they seemed more harsh than helpful as Milliner tries to get up to speed with the NFL system.

“For him it’s a learning experience,” said Antonio Cromartie, who is expected to start across from Milliner in Week 1. “For this game, it’s the second preseason game for him and we expect more from him than we saw tonight. “That’s something that he needs to learn from and he has to come out with a great attitude and get ready for the next week when we get ready to play guys like Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz.”

Frankly, I’m not surprised that Cromartie had something to say about his teammate. I don’t think it was malicious, but it definitely didn’t sound nice either. And to no one’s surprise, guess who had something derogatory to say about one of his rookies?

“I was a little upset with some of the mistakes we made,” Jets coach Rex Ryan said. “I didn’t like the way we competed and challenged on the outside — not so much Cromartie, but from Dee. When we call on him, I want him to get up there. Let’s go. Let’s play. We were off a little too much, and it’s not as if you game plan them like crazy, but give them credit.”

I’m no longer surprised by anything Rex Ryan says to the media. It’s no surprise that he loves the attention he gets, and as long as he keeps talking, people are going to keep listening. It wasn’t that long ago that he made comments about his new QB, Geno Smith, was “Brutal” in practice, right after claiming that he “didn’t see” Mark Sanchez throw a HORRIBLE interception in their first preseason game. Frankly, the media needs to stop feeding these guys or the circus isn’t going to stop. Then again, why would the media want the circus to stop?

The Jets/Rex Ryan trainwreck is gold for them.
