Jets RB Chris Johnson: Titans ‘Did Me Wrong'; Cites Revenge As Motive
New York Jets RB Chris Johnson had a less than ideal divorce with his last team, the Tennessee Titans. Johnson, who is famous for his 2,000 yard rushing season while with the Titans, was released by the team after under-performing since that record-breaking 2010 season. However, Johnson is still unhappy about the way the whole thing went down, specifically the timing of his release:
I think they was just being nasty to be honest…I love Tennessee, I love my fans and all that, but I think at the end of the day [the Titans]did me wrong. And I don’t know if it was, ‘Oh, we’re gonna get revenge back on you for holding out’ when I held out the whole training camp [in 2011]or whatever.
I feel like they already knew they were going in a different direction, and it just baffles me that you release me after free agency is over and you wait until a couple days [before]it’s time to show up for offseason workouts to let me go.
While I understand Johnson’s critique here, and the timing does seem a bit unnecessary, it’s just time to move on. Be the bigger person; you’ve found a new situation with what is probably a better team anyway, there is no reason to keep dwelling on what happened with the Titans. Johnson has enough competition on the Jets roster to worry about.
Plus, I highly doubt there was a big market for his services on the free agent market regardless of the timing.
